Protection & Control Design Engineer II- III
EPS Engineering & Design (EPS E&D) is the professional engineering arm of Electric Power Systems International, Inc. (EPSII). EPS E&D was formed in 2008 to offer a broad spectrum of capabilities that range from a simple relay settings change all the way to turnkey a 500kV power substation design project.
The candidate will perform conceptual and detail design services for physical, protection and control as well as cost estimates related to the development of new transmission and distribution substations, and the modification or expansion of existing substations. Must have experience performing all aspects associated with substation design including one line diagrams, three line diagrams, DC control schemes, secondary AC distribution, cable matrices, wiring diagrams, SCADA equipment specification, balance of plant, general arrangements, electrical elevations, foundation layout/design, lightning protection, grounding plans, conduit plans, buswork design, control house layouts/elevations and material lists.

The purpose of this position is to perform skilled technical installation, programming, testing, and maintenance of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Assigned projects will include SCADA and communications for utility and industrial/commercial clients. Systems to be analyzed will include conventional and renewable generation facilities, substations, and transmission and distribution systems. Technical disciplines include the following three areas: Networking and Communications: design and configure network and communication paths for Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), Human Machine Interface (HMIs), PLC’s and other SCADA system equipment; specify and design communication networks including data security and availability; develop basic specifications for fiber optic, microwave, power line carrier, or radio communication paths; travel to project sites to troubleshoot and commission network and communication systems.
The EPS Engineering & Design staff has decades of experience with substation design and site expansion projects. Our engineers and technicians design detailed job packages that include site plan
feasibility, cost estimates, engineering studies, bid documents, general contractor selection, construction drawings, equipment specifications, wiring diagrams, elevation drawings and bill of materials.
