Job Purpose: Proactively monitors and manages the daily operations of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) which is a Landis & Gyr RF Mesh system. Performs regular system “health” checks on all AMI hardware and software. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves all AMI network problems, errors and inefficiencies; coordinating with internal and external resources as needed. This position will ensure system integrity, functionality, and interoperability with other systems, as well as data integrity. 

Monitor AMI network via the Landis & Gyr Command Center dashboard and troubleshoot issues with meters, routers, or collectors. Coordinate with other personnel and vendors as needed to resolve issues requiring
hardware repair or replacement.

1. Register & Interval Read Performance: Monitor register & interval read performance to determine if the health of the AMI system is sufficient to support the stated goals of healthy, normal deployed endpoints. Troubleshoot and    address issues.
2. Two-way Transaction Success: Monitor the two-way transaction success in order to ensure the system is performing optimally in relation to command and control functions. Two-way transactions include but are not limited to Demand Resets, On Demand Reads, Service Connects and Disconnects, both system and user initiated.
3. Events and Errors: Monitor events & errors to ensure that key functions within the Command Center application are performing as expected. Coordinate with L&G to address any failures or trends that might have a critical impact on the network.
4. Daily Operations:

• • Track Read percentage & Transaction Success Investigate & troubleshoot meters that are not logging for 2+ days
  • Investigate and troubleshoot meters that have a status other than ‘Normal’ in Command Center.
  • Send Time Sync Commands to meters with time sync events within the last 7 days.
  • Utilize field tools, such as Radio Shop, to investigate and analyze meter or network devices
    failures.

• Coordinate with Apparatus personnel to ensure that routine inspections of AMI related equipment are performed in a timely manner in the field, document deficiencies and correction. Coordinate with other personnel as needed.
• Perform and document all hardware, firmware, or software updates on the AMI system, working with vendor as needed to address any difficulties.
• Monitor usage of AMI hardware to determine appropriate level of inventory required, and track trends in usage to determine and investigate any AMI hardware issues.
• Maximize number of successful transactions (system & user initiated) completed via AMI daily.
• Identify meter issues and notify appropriate personnel when issue cannot be resolved from the office.
• Monitor Pre-Paid dashboard and work with Member Services to address any problems or meter issues with connecting, disconnecting or reconnecting Pre-Paid Members.
• Review metering information to identify possible theft situations.
• Ensure all billing meter reads are obtained in advance of the billing extract and take appropriate actions when reads cannot be obtained.
• Work with Billing to maximize the use of the AMI System for all rate classes, and all metering options 
• Conduct regular reviews to ensure that demand meters are being reset on the proper intervals and that the proper demand reads are used for billing demand accounts.
• Compile metrics and statistics that relate to the performance of the AMI system.
• Identify any areas for improvement within the AMI system and communicate suggestions to the Manager of Technical Services.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronics, Communications, Business or related field of study,
• Minimum five years of progressive experience with an electrical utility or utility contractor in Field Services, Metering, Apparatus, or AMI related work. Ten years progressive experience, in the same fields, may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience with AMI systems, including hardware and software.
• Proven problem-solving ability.
• Excellent computer skills, including MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Access or similar software.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for interaction with system users, staff and vendors.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information as needed.
• Knowledge of basic electricity, meter construction and operations, and AMI Systems.
• Thorough knowledge of L&G Command Center, L&G Radio Shop, AMI network infrastructure, troubleshooting techniques, and communications protocols.
• Ability to accurately perform multiple duties and persevere when obstacles are present.
• Requires general knowledge of distribution line equipment and hardware and safety requirements in order to recognize hazards.
• Knowledge of all safety requirements, guidelines, rules, and regulations.
• Requires a valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Must satisfactorily pass employment physical and drug screens.

Physical Demands

• General office environment subject to frequent interruptions with radio, emails, and telephone response requests simultaneously.
• Mobility inside and outside of office is required. Stooping, standing, climbing, and significant walking may be required for fieldwork.
• Extensive use of computers and hand-held devices.
• Must be available to work after-hours as needed and during emergencies.
• Required to work overtime or hours other than 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. as needed.
• Must have ability to adjust to changes in the daily work plan reacting to new and often high priority instructions requiring immediate action.
• Must report to work in disaster situations
