Senior Protection and Controls Engineer (Engineer IV)

Job Description:

 

The candidate will be instrumental in the development of protection and control schemes, quality assurance for new and existing medium and high voltage electrical substations for small and large projects throughout the country including coordination across multiple entities within the company and with outside clients.  Responsible for maintaining and growing client relationships.  Must have a proven track record developing conceptual and detailed design services as well as cost estimates related to the development of new transmission and distribution substations, and the modification or expansion of existing substations  The candidate shall have extensive experience performing all aspects associated with substation design including relay one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, DC control schemes (including but not limited to bus, capacitor bank, line and transformer controls and protection), secondary AC distribution, cable matrices, wiring diagrams (point-to-point), SCADA, equipment specifications (primary and secondary) and balance of plant.  Candidate shall have experience successfully leading design teams.  Additionally the candidate will be well versed in estimating, scheduling, specification development, procurement support and mentoring of lower level engineers. 

Responsibilities

 

  • BSEE required from an ABET accredited university with an emphasis in power system related studies
  • Eight (8) or more years of increasing engineering experience and responsibility in protection system design and coordination of utility substations
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical substation major equipment and auxiliary systems
  • Vast experience in protection and control design for electrical substations
  • Working knowledge of load management, automated meter reading (AMR), distribution/transmission automation (SCADA) systems
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in good standing in one or more states
  • Successful candidate shall be an American citizen or possess an H1B Visa
  • Occasional travel to customer locations or remote training locations

 

Qualifications

  • Must be highly creative and analytical with the ability to think critically
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook) and basic AutoCAD and/or Microstation
  • Must possess excellent communication skills both orally and written
  • Works effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Project management skills a plus
