EPS Engineering & Design (EPS E&D) is the professional engineering arm of Electric Power Systems International, Inc. (EPSII).  EPS E&D was formed in 2008 to offer a broad spectrum of capabilities that range from a simple relay settings change all the way to turnkey a 500kV power substation design project.


EPS E&D has the ability to provide our customers cost effective consulting, engineering, design and drafting services, with support through construction completion and commissioning with a personal touch that differentiates our small, privately held firm from the very large design companies that need to compensate for higher overhead costs.



The candidate will perform conceptual and detail design services for physical, protection and control as well as cost estimates related to the development of new transmission and distribution substations, and the modification or expansion of existing substations.  Must have experience performing all aspects associated with substation design including one line diagrams, three line diagrams, DC control schemes, secondary AC distribution, cable matrices, wiring diagrams, SCADA equipment specification, balance of plant, general arrangements, electrical elevations, foundation layout/design, lightning protection, grounding plans, conduit plans, buswork design, control house layouts/elevations and material lists.


  • BSEE required from an ABET accredited university with an emphasis in power system related studies
  • Three (3) or more years of increasing engineering experience and responsibility in protection system    design required, and physical substation design is preferred      
  • Working knowledge of electrical substation physical layout and control houses
  • Working knowledge of electrical substation major equipment and auxiliary systems
  • Extensive experience in protection and control design for electrical utility substations, including use of customer standards, as well as an understanding in protection theory to address unique circumstances
  • Working knowledge of load management, automated meter reading (AMR), distribution/transmission automation (SCADA) systems is a benefit but not required
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License is a benefit, must be able to obtain P.E. licensure
  • EIT registered in good standing
  • Perform day-to-day interface with local customers, including on-site meetings, data gathering, document control, field construction issue resolution, and training
  • Occasional travel to customer locations or remote training locations


  • Must be highly creative and analytical with the ability to think critically
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook) and basic AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Self-motivated to increase personal skills set and resolve design issues
  • Works effectively in a team environment, including remote team interface
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Project management skills and client facing capabilities are required
